Do you ever feel like you have one element of your life that attracts every possible wrong outcome? For instance, say you bite your cheek in the morning and then all day after that first bite, you continue to bite your cheek in the same spot making it more swollen and “hurty” for the rest of the day!

I have something in my life that is exactly like biting your cheek consistently throughout the day. I attract flying objects into my windshield. I know you are all thinking bugs; but that is so not the case! I attract all sorts of flying debris. For instance, I was driving home from work one day (recently) and something flew into my windshield. The car in front of me lost a lugnut off one of their tires and it SMASHED right into my windshield. I may have screamed a little when it hit, since it was a nice loud crash. We were going about 75mph too, so you can imagine the heart-pounding, adrenaline inducing panic that I went in to. That clinched me needing to get a new windshield. I had been debating for some time, since mine was all cracked across, but a nice spiral fracture pretty much determined what needed to be. So, I got myself a new windshield. And of course this had to happen right when I had just purchased four new tires! Nothing like seeing your paycheck disappear to unexpected costs. That was fun.

IMG_0991So I had my nice new windshield for a total of four days, and wouldn’t you know, a street-sweeper decided to empty out his collection bin right in front of me. We were traveling 50 mph. Rocks, debris, and dirt cascaded out of the machine and it all hit my nice new windshield! The impact caused some small chips to appear but nothing too serious. That is just my luck!

The story gets better. So remember how I mentioned I just got a new windshield and four new tires, my radiator went out the exact day I got my tires replaced, which was about three days after the new windshield! So, within a week’s time frame, I had to spend my entire paycheck and then some to take care of my car. (Her name is Betsy, p.s. by-the-way.)

A few days ago, I had another rock hit my windshield, and this one did damage.

There was no way of getting around it. There was a massive chip in my nice, new windshield. I guess, I at least made it a whole month before some serious damage happened. Thankfully I have free chip repair on my windshield now thanks to TechnaGlass. I went there to get my new windshield because I saw their free rock-chip repair when you purchase a new windshield from them, and let’s face it, the above incidents are enough to make sure I get all the coverage I need.  Moral of this long rant…Don’t Ever Let me Drive Your Car…Your windshield will come back damaged.

“‘What’ and ‘if’ two words as nonthreatening as words come. But put them together side-by-side and they have the power to haunt you for the rest of your life: What if?” ~ Letters to Juliet

“What if” is such a dangerous and yet also an exhilarating phrase. It can create so many different circumstances and choices that we have to muddle through. It can create and inspire, as well as crush and exterminate our dreams. And yet, we let those two little words, combined together, to stop us from achieving greatness. We let fear become the ruler of our lives if we choose not to do something because of that little phrase, “What if.” And then you have great people who use this phrase to create. Creation is a part of who we are, and instead of using our powers for good, we hide them because we are afraid.

I’m guilty of being afraid. I am afraid all the time. I am afraid of what others think of me; I’m afraid of being alone; I’m afraid of losing self respect; I’m afraid of the future; I’m afraid for my nieces and nephews. All of these are fears because of that tiny phrase. I let that phrase consume and extinguish, instead of push me to create. A lot of the great advances that we have in this world all came from “What if” thoughts. Those creators chose to turn this phrase into a power. A power to do something wonderful. A power to make dreams a reality. Isn’t it about time that we all use the phrase “What if” for our advantage, instead of letting those words haunt us?Selena Gomez
